I have had 2 deer capes in the safety acid pickle for 4 days. They have been stirred 4 times a day and were re-hydrated as per your instruction sheet. The PH has always been right at 1.0. The capes still do not have that milky white consistency, and plumpness that I like to see so I can thin them out and return to the pickle. Is it ok to leave them in the pickle for 4,5,or 6 days until they are the right plumpness and milky white. I have used safety acid before and left a whitetail cape in the solution for almost 5 days after re-hydration and had no problems. The capes I have in the safety acid now have been salt dried for 6 months and were taken care of properly. I need your advice. Thank you, Jan
I routinely leave them there for much longer periods Jan! I like to have samples available for testing so its not unusual for me to keep them pickled, some shaven and some unshaven, for up to 2-3 months in my Saftee Acid pickle. As long as the Ph holds and you stir them every 1-2 days, after the initial 3 days, they should be fine.
