Dear Frank I used to have that problem but I have a person that works for me and he uses the curriers knife over a fibber glass fleshing beam with two ends one narrow and the other end not so much, with practice you can even shave faster that with a fleshing machine and you van shave very thin pieces of skin, the best way to thin it is to dry tan, then after rehidratation being humid use the curriers knife and also you can use a buffing machine sanding the flesh using a sponge and pressing the skin to the sanding paper as it is rotating, also let the skin drain very well before shaving, about the fleshing machine I am not saying it cant shave very thin , but for me it was much more difficult an risky in making holes. Donít use to much salt as it thins down the thickness of the skin . Jonas sells bothitems.
I hope these tips can helps you
