When using Aluminum Sulfate as an acid base tanning product
why is a nutralizer not required. such as the tanning crystals
used in the auto tanner, just add crystals and tanning oil
shave and mount.

I'd think you'd find that in the archives. If someone professes not to neutralize (basify) it at all, don't pay any attention to any other advice they give either.

Need to neutralize

You need to neutralize after the bath in aluminun sulfate.Whether you use the autotanner chrystals or another source. Soak the hide or cape in the neutralizing bath containing one ounce of soda to each gallon of water. Soak for an hour then continue with your process. Good luck ....JL

Thats not the instructions that came with the machine! In the case of the auto tanner your using the aluminum sulfate as your tan, just like alot of commercial tannerys.Aluminum sulfate can also be used as a pickle ,thats when you neutralize. frank
