Questions for Bruce: Holding the hides down

Submitted by Leon on 7/22/01. ( mith124@hotmail.com ) 208.252.151.82

Hello Bruce, you said:"never use a rock to hold the skins down, the acids will leach out minerals from it!"

I was wondering what can I do to hold the hides under the solution when picking and tanning ... do the hides need to be complety under " the solution"

Thank You
Wleon

Just periodically stir the hides to make sure all areas contact the acid or tan.

Dave's right - don't even try to hold them under - it's too much work, and letting them float won't hurt. Just stir periodically. Twice a day is good.
