I would like to know what type of tanning agent and degreaser is most commonly used. i have been using curatan, with good results, but i want to know if there is something better. I have been degreasing with laundry detergent. thanks for any help
Pat,Curatan is fine to use as long as you do a thorough job of fleshing because it is not a deep penetrating tan.I personally use Liqua-Tan.If you want to see the difference between both tans, do one with Curatan and another with Liqua-Tan.Put both of them in the freezer. When it comes time to mount , take note of which hide thaws out faster. This of course isnt the only good tan out there but it is the one I use the most, but there are quite a few tans out there which will penetrate deeper than Curatan. Mark Daniels from Knolblochs or Bruce Rittel can give you more choices for tans or any answers that you may have, they both frequent the Forums regularly. Hope this helps.
Pat, sorry I forgot about the second part of youre question. For whitetail I usually never degrease ,but if I have to Iwould use a capful of Kemal-4.
Dawn dishwashing detergent works well. Then cream tan your cape with Rhineharts cream tan.
