Traphunt,
The best degreaser I've ever used is the one sold under the Epo-Grip name. It has the highest pH of any of the soaps available to us and as such, is not a solvent, but a soap that breaks down the protein in fat. Diluted 40:1, it can be used for birds, but I'd recommend more like 10:1 for hogs. That's what I use and I leave it in the solution for no more than 20 minutes at a time. Remember, the pH attacks protein and can actually destroy skin tissue if not monitored closely. Wash it twice and rinse it good both times and I'd bet you won't have any appreciable grease to contend with. And remember, wash it AFTER you have it completely fleshed and the shield completely removed.

thanks georoof

We have another degreaser that has been around for a while, and works
great. The Super Solv that we make here, is very concentrated and
works great on pigs and bears. You can LIQUA TAN the skin just fine
after you finish your pickle and degreasing.
