What would be the best tan for a bison cape I'd like to mount (shoulder)? I have used both Lutan and Chrome tan in the past on full hides. Any suggestions for a cape? Thanks.
Chrome is an excellent tan - for leather! However, as a Taxidermy tan it has too much memory (when stretched it wants to return to its original size) and when it dries on the form it tends to not "snug" up well in some of the areas like the throat.
Lutan F (N) is an excellent choice for Taxidermy. It has lots of stretch and will shrink only slightly as it dries - conforming to your form. Of the 2 - it would be my choice.
