No salt in the pickle

Submitted by shane on 10/26/01. ( shane_shauna @yahoo.com ) 204.196.180.18

I have been using saftee acid and liqua tan with great results. However, recently i mixed up a pickle batch and forgot to add the required amount of salt. The pickle was only acid and water. The ph was 1.0 for three days. I realized what had happened after taking the cape out to shave and it was like a piece of rubber! I went ahead and shaved it and am wondering if there is anything that I can do to salveage this cape?
Thanks, and please be gentle.

Shane let me first say I'm sorry for not having the answer to your question. But I can understand your concern. Your worried about George. He won't be too hard on you. But not putting salt in the pickle is kinda like not putting bullets in your gun or not haven lead in your pencil. That can happen to anyone and if your cape is not salvagable there are more out there. OK let em have it George.
LOL

Add salt and soak it some more.

It may correct itself. Had you used D.P. this would not have happened. or a tannery. Just add more salt than the receipe calls for and it may relax with some pulling and stretching.

How do I deserve that

I wasn't going to say a thing.
Shane, the salt itself doesn't effect the pH. Bruce Rittel covered this in detail someplace in the archives (Search icon). As JC said, it may have resolved itself, but the best lessons are those we all learn the hard way. Bet you'll not have the same thing happen again soon (or if you're like me and forget why you even came into the room sometime, it'll happen tomorrow. Don't worry, you'll forget that too)
