Rabbit Fur

Submitted by Mike on 1/7/02. ( )

I am going to be attempting another rabbit fur(jackrabbit). In the past I have had troubles getting a nice soft leather, usually brittle. I have been using pickling crystals and curatan from Van Dykes.

Any Suggestions? One more thing, what about degreasing a racoon? I've got a fat one!

Have you tried Tumbling?

HEllo Mike,
Have you tried tumbling these skins? If so, more than just Curatan is needed.Once the skin is dried and tumbled (after the Curatan process)applt Protal or Pro Plus to the skin and allow to set in for 24 hours. Then tumble again. The more times you oil and Break, the softer and more plyable the skin will get.
You may even want to think about using EZ-100 if the Curatan isn't doing the job you need.

As far as degreasing your Coon, Eliminator Degreaser is a great product for the job!

Have a great day,
