Early Season (velvet) Deer cape

Submitted by Lance on 1/12/02. ( )

Hello All,
I've got an early season buck in Velvet that was not kept very well in freezer and was found to have some freezer burn in the ears. I'm going to inject with water and try to open them but my question is that if it becomes to risky to do this completly is it ok to leave in the pickle and try to finish the turning of the ears as the pickle re-hydrates them? Just maybe over a couple of days in the pickle I can finish the job without tearing them wide open. Just wondering......
Thanks, Lance!

You would be surprised on how fast ears rehydrate.
