Mr. Rittel's ultra soft

Submitted by Chris on 2/2/02. ( yotetrapper@hotmail.com ) 32.103.99.107

I just rehydrated a few pelts for tanning and had added ultra soft relaxer in the water. I noticed when I dumped the water that the ultra soft relaxer had percipitated out and was on the bottom of the tub. Does the ultra soft need to be dissolved in warm water prior to adding to the rehydration bath. The overall water temp of the bath was between 50-60 degrees for the 12 hr period that I was rehydrating.

Thanks
Chris

Thats cool! I'd prefer using it at 65-85 degrees. Hopefully you only used 2 Tablespoonfuls to each 1 gallon of solution - any higher usage at such a low temperature would definitely jel somewhat. Always mix it in and dissolve it before placing the skins into it, and use it by itself - no Salt - no Bacteriacide! Its an excellent Relaxer - and customers tell us its great on reviving "freezer burns"!

Good stuff

Hi Chris, Do what Bruce says and you will have excellant results. Our salted deer capes are normally rehydrated in 8 hours. We have not had any problems with it, but we also stir it when turning the skin around in the container. Good luck.
