I'm learning more and more about tanning all the time. I've been using liqua-tan. After the liqua-tan has set and soaked into the hide for acouple hours or even overnight, is it ok to wash the hide in water afterwards, then tumble and mount or not? And if I can't mount a hide right away after letting the tan soak in, is it best to freeze the hide or let it dry and rehydrate when i am ready to mount it? Thanks

Hello C.?
There is Tons of this info in the Archives.Tons! Good reading too.
But sure, you could wash the capes after you tan them out with the Liqua-Tan with a mild deturgent and luke warm water, but I would allow the oils to penetrate into the skin for about 6-8 hours before doing so.You dont want to wash all the Tannins out in the process.
And you can store the capes either way. I prefer to let the capes completely cure and dry and then rehydrate and mount on all the mounts I choose to use Liqua-Tan on.PLus, when you rehydrate the skins, all the oils that have gotten into the hairs rinse out.
But you CAN apply the oil, allow to soak into the skin and fold skin to skin and freeze. The Tannins will continue to penetrate, just at a slower pace.
But still chec out the Archives. Theres a wealth of information in its contents!
have a good day,
Dave
