The Salt I'm Using?

Submitted by Chris on 2/10/02. ( ) 65.68.100.95

I'm using salt I bought from a farm supply store. It's called "American Stock Fine Stock Salt". It seems like it's pretty course. It is non-iodized and it's got some black granuals in it that seem to be some kind of filler material. Is it o.k. to be using this kind? Like I said, it does seem course. Thanks for your help!

It's fine for salting capes and hides. But don't use it for mixing in pickels or tanning. The black specks are dirt, it doesn't dissolve and will get in the hide and dull you round knife, if you use one. If they handle American Stockman salt, next time ask them for the "clean white" salt. It looks just like table salt. That's the same salt I use and the local F/S or feed store should handle it too.
