I've always had good success in softening leather with SENTRY's SOLVZ-IT # 5504. It is a penetrating leather lubricant that is non yellowing and softens very well. You can reach SENTRY at 1-800-868-1454. After you get the softness you want, it might be a good idea to to put a clear coat of something like armour-all to protect your clothing. Good luck.
