questions for bruce or anyone else familiar with preservz-it

If you have the time could you please answer a few questions that I'm fuzzy on. #1. You say PI is compatible with glycerine for use in wings and legs in example #5. But what exactly is glycerine. I've heard of it but I'm not sure where to get it. #2. You said it's also compatible with glue for wings and such. Well my question is why glue? And would glue be too thick to pass through a hypedermic needle? #3. Can PI be injected into subjects without being diluted?

Rittels, I think what he meant with glue is that it's compatable and will not cause any negative reaction should both be present. Glycerine is a colorless, sweet, syrupy, liquid obtained from fats and oils. It's used in ointments and medicines. What that has to do with taxidermy is beyond me. Fianally, they make some big hypo's that I can push elmers and other glues/epoxies through. I wouldn't use an insulin syringe but all major suppliers carry big hypos. I have personally used PI successfully to plump up the nose pad on Eiders and injected it where i was suspect of a missed piece of meat in wings end and such. Some advice on using PI-641!

Some guys used to prefer to inject Glycerine mixed with some Formalin into the feet of birds. They felt that the glycerine being a non-drying type of oil would give the foot fullness and keep it pliable. The Formalin (a dilution of Formaldehyde) was thought to add a bug deterrant and preservative effect to it. However, Formaldehyde causes cancer - and a better alternative is our Rittels PRESERVZ-IT (PI-641)! Mix it 10% PI-641 and 90% Glycerine.

Another option - and the one that I like - is to mix Rittels PI-641 (10%) and Elmer's White Glue (90%). I like it because once it sets up it holds the shape and fullness of the foot. And even though it hardens - its forever set in this position. I usually inject, then place a pin in the injection hole to keep it from bleeding, and after it sets up, i remove the pin and press it together to hide the hole.

Both mixes are injectable. The PI-641 tends to thin them both out, and its compatible with both materials.
