Saftee Acid

I do use saftee acid a fair amount. I like to use some aluminum sulphate even in the pickle to set the hair better. If you don't want/like alum in the pickle, definitely follow Mr Rittel's recommendations of double salting, complete drying, and rehydration before pickling. The Preservz-it then works well to tighten up the hair.

We find that this works well for us and we do get positive feedback on this system:

1. Flesh very well.
2. Salt 1 to 3 hours, shake off excess.
3. Mix pickle 4 oz aluminum sulphate, 8 oz salt, 1 gallon water
4. Add Saftee acid to lower pH to 2 or below.
5. Put skin(s), pickle fluid into machine. Pressurize, set timer 1 hour.
6. Pull and drain skin. Shave well.
7. Check pickle pH. Adjust as necessary.
8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until skin is thin as desired. (1-3 more times usually).
9. Neutralize and tan.

Hope this helps!
