I am looking for a quick and inexpensive way to keep my fleshing knife sharp while I am working on a cape. I currently use the Lansky sharping kit,but I can not keep the edge from rolling and it takes time to use the guide.

Buy yourself a paper wheel . All the major supply comanies sell them for around $30.00. Buy a cheap bench grinder at walmart, and turn the motor so that it runs away from you. I unscrewed mine at the bottom, turned it around, then screwed it back. Put on the two paper wheels, one has grit on it and the other is for polishing the steel, with rouge.
Have used one for 5 years and I highly recomend it. Have not found a knife I cannot sharpen to a razor edge, in a matter of seconds. Hope this helps.
Todd,
Go to my web site; www.atreide.net/fleshing , I explaine how to use the tonners (small wiers) It takes less than a second and you can get hundreds of capes out af the same lip. Any other method is grinding into it.

i agree the paper wheel is great. ad to it a butchers steel to fine tune it and i think it the best
send them to me for an extra sharp grind, email for info
one way i have found is to hollow gring the knife and then use a LANSKY kitat 25%... and then to steel your knife at the same angle you cut your edge at.....if you dont then it is a compelte waste of time...because if you dont use the same angle that you cut your edge at....than your are [expletive deleted] the angle you cut....YOU HAVE TO USE THE SAME ANGLE TO STEEL AS YOU CUT...if you dont than you are wasteing your time......... a boner of 6 years....(i have found that 25% gives you a nice versitle edge that will stand up to a hard nights work...if yuou are a slicer than i recomand tht you use a 20% angle it will give you a very sharp knife....but it will be a little weaker than a 25% knife....for more info on lansky kits visit www.lansky.com
