After Elzner's video and the lutan instructions I have some questions on Lutan. What is the target Ph and how does it effect the tan, I've read 3.5 to 6.
After tanning and a quick rinse to remove the salt/etc. It sez to oil or mount without. What about oiling, sweating, tumbling and mounting?(no freeze) I am concerned about getting some oil in the hair, will that tumble out? I've heard washing is a no no. Also what about drying and breaking, then the need to rehyd prior to mounting.

I've been ordering my Lutan through Van Dykes. They give you complete instructions with the order. I have used this for a time now and it hasn't failed me yet. I pickle, neutralize, then wash my hide before tanning. After tanning with lutan, rinse, let hang for about 30 min. Then I apply pro plus oil this works great, you mix one part pro plus to two parts hot water. Then just apply don't worry about getting this on the hair, it will tumble out, let hang for 8 hours, either freeze or hang anytime after, before mounting just tumble. Oh and all you do to break the hide is pull and your ready to mount. Good Luck. I'm sure you'll use this from now on. As for the ph I just follow the recipe never fails. Washing is a no no, to rehidrate if needed just use h2o. feel free to e mail me.
