I have spent hours in the archives and couldn't find an answer so I was hoping someone could help me with this question
does anyone know if I can use liqua tan on a bobcat hide after it has been salted, fleshed and had borax used on it then was frozen, I know that borax raises the ph in the pickle to unacceptable levels, but will it interfere with the liqua tan? I have mounted cats using DP only and glued them down with Epo-grip and had good results but I just started tanning capes and such with liquatan and an acid pickle and like the results. I have a cat that I would like to tan but I had previously "boraxed" the hide and would like to know if I could skip the pickle all together and use the liquatan after the borax or am I asking for trouble and should just stick with the DP.

got kicked off line while I was trying to submit it and when I got back on it submitted it again .....sorry
Copied and pasted:
DON'T Skip the pickle. Liqua-tan works best with a pickled hide. In order to pickle it I would rinse the hide a couple of time in cool water and mix up the pickle. During the first cuople of hours check the PH and make sure it doesn't rise. If it does add more acid till the PH stabilizes. From there just do as you would.
