Question for Bruce Rittel

Bruce - although I normally have all my tanning done commercially, I always have some quick and easy on hand to do an occassional whitetail cape or some small game. I have a rush job to do on a Russian boar and was wondering if between salting out and pickling there was an easy way to degrease before using your quick tan. I do have a shaving machine and normally only tan things that don't need degreasing. I appreciate any advice you can give me.

You have several options!

For degreasers you have several options. I use our Super Solvent - 2 fl. ozs. to each 1 Gl. of Water and soak the skin for 30 minutes. Remove and rinse. Another option is to buy Odorless Mineral Spirits and soak it for 1-2 hours. Use the OMS pure. Afterwards, I'd wash and rinse it. Either method works, however I personally think that the Super Solvent is the very best and one of the fastest degreasers on the market. It really degreases and gives your skins a "squeaky clean" feel!
