I have a beautiful cougar tanned by a comercial tannery,
What is the best method to get a good stretch for a life size mount.
I have heard all types of ways but still not completly sure on how to do it correctly without damage to the hide.
Any help would be appreciated

Carl, it sounds like you're doing it backwards. Once you have the hide back from the tannery, you lay it out and stretch it width wise, lengthwise, and then again widthwise. THEN you measure it and order a form according to those measurements. You can't pour a gallon into a quart ziplock bag no matter how you try.
try taking your hide and soaking it in 2gallons of cool water and mix in a good spoon of baking soda for about 20 minits then shake out much water as you can ,place it in a plastic bag let it sweat for about an hour then try it should give you a good amount of streach;
