The archives say to use corn cob grit in a tumbler.
All I can find is 'cracked corn' from the local feed supplier.
Does anyone know if 'cracked corn' and 'corn cob grit' are the
same thing?
If not, will cracked corn work?

cracked corn and corn cob grit are not the samething, cracked corn is the corn kernels crushed into smaller pieces.It is used for feed purposes. cob grit is the cob ground into a powder. Thats what you need to put in a tumbler.cracked corn will be to coarse.you can find cob grit in just about any taxidermy cat. Van Dykes,McKenzie. Research Mannikins, WASCO. hope this helps out.

I get my corn cob grit at local place that sells sandblasting materials. I get 4020 size or is it 2040, I can't remember at the moment but it is the small size.
most pet supply stores sell corn cob grit for animal bedding some of the lager shops sell it in large bags
Depending upon the quantity of grit you need it may be cost effective to purchase from Mount Pulaski Products.

Dave i'm a beginner too,...never used corncob.i was told by the taxidermist that trained me to use HARDWOOD sawdust. it works great, and is more available,at least around here,boston area. bob m.
