Wet tanning is pretty much what the name says. It is wet after it is tanned. Wet tanning is mainly used on shouldermounts and lifesize. They have a good stretch and often keep the colors on ears and noses better. All in shop tans are wet tans. Dry tanning means the cape goes through an additional process after it is tanned. When it is finished the cape is dry. This is the method used for wallhangings and rugs. The hide is very flexible and the skinside is true leather. You can have your capes drytanned. You just need to rehydrate them in cool water and leave in a bag in a refrigerator before mounting them the next day.The hides do get their stretch back after being rehydrated. I use both tanning methods. Since I don't have enough freezerspace where I can keep all those wetanned capes I have a lot of them drytanned. It's a matter of preference.

theres a little more to it than that

Thats part of it, but wet tan is true leather too. I would suggest going back to the archive, as this is a common question, with many accurate answers alreay in print. Good luck!
