I just wanted some info about this situation to see what I should do.I am new to the Taxidermy world as far as for the public is concerned and I am having a problem with a tannery.I took them 11 skins on 1-16-02 and was told that they would be ready in 30 to 45 days.I paid them in full and went on the way.(my cousin actually took all of the skins to him and he paid him in full) anyway their literature says 30 to 45 days and 50% deposit required on all orders.Well I called them two weeks ago today and they said they were two weeks bwhind and that they would be ready in two weeks.I called today and told me they would be ready in 1 MONTH.What should I do and should i be as upset as I am.I have customers to think about also.I have another 30 capes to send him but I'm not sure that is such a good idea. Thanks for any and all responses.

i would be extremely pissed. first of they seem to be lieing to you. second do you want to continue to do bussiness with someone who does not understand how smooth or how well their own bussiness works. when i tell someone a certain date i really try to stick to it. if i do have to adjust dates i am sure to get it right the second time. and above all i never lie to a costumer. to most people its just another mount, but to a real sportsman you are holding a memory, a place in their life, and above all, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, you have THEIR trophy. mail me maybe i can help tanning your skins.
I tell my customers it maybe up to 1 year to get their mount back. There are many factors involved and some are out of my control. Be patient and if your not happy there are other tanneries you can give your business to, but I would guess they won't get those hides back in 30-45 days either. Tha only way you can really guarantee things is to invest in an auto tanner or do your own manual tanning. Good luck.
i to have been waiting and waiting for my cape to get done' i was lulled into 30-45 days and its has been 4 months! so i guess some places really just dont do what they say! so im chalking it up to a learning experience and will get conditions in writting next time.
i hav e heard of many problems from experiences at tanneries or any time those hide leave your hands ! i did not personally care for the thought of calling customers and explaining the worst to them so you know what i did ? I LEARNED TO TAN ! it was the best thing i ever added to my education in taxidermy . take your time at doing each hide thouroughly and contact customers instantly if there is a problem when the hide is thawed for fleshing! <hair slippage etc> . good luck . joe
