Pickle-Tan- oil then Smell?

Anyone have idea on this? Once in awhile I have a cape after being mounted and starting to dry have a "yeast" type smell which I know has to be bacteria of some sort. These same ones seem to have some lose hair that will tighten up when dry. I flesh, salt, re-salt let dry. I am very careful with my PH levels, clean salt, fresh pickle (every three-four capes) and same with the tan (lutan fn). I flesh thin and do everything by the book. I most often put two to three deer though the process at the same time so why would one be fine and one has this smell? Once dry it fades and everything is fine. But I would love to get to the root of this. Thanks!

Bacteria! Dry your capes well before mounting.

I also have had this trouble in the past. Turn the head upside down on the 2nd day and rotate daily. Use a great HIDE ADHESIVE )EPO-GRIP(
Then you can put a fan on them and dry them much quicker.

A week is long enough, then let them set for another week and finish.

Rob, I'm interested!

If you are geniunely interested in this problem, and wish to pursue it send me an e-mail. I will in turn send you some pictures that you can use for comparisons. Hopefully, you would have one of these mounts still on hand, or access to it. You will also need good eye balls or any kind of magnifying glass. Glen
