EZ 100 Question

I have a heavily coated whitetail (December-Montanna) that I'm tanning with EZ 100. The directions say to drain the hide for twenty minutes and no more after tanning before appyling the tanning oil and sweating. My question is: Should I dry the hair side more with towels or blower (do not have a tumbler) to try to keep the hair side as dry as possible? I have better results with liquatan when I do this procedure.

Russell, I usually remove the capes from the tan. Rinse them off, mostly hair side light on skin side. Let them drain for 20 minutes and apply the oil.You should make sure the hair side is pretty dry if you don't have a tumbler. Try not to get oil on the hairside is the main objective or you will have to remove after deer is dry.

If you dont have a Tumbler!

After you tan the cape, rinse it. If you dont have a tumbler - you can either use old towels to towel dry the hair, or put some sawdust in a garbage bag, bounce the cape and sawdust around for 5-10 minutes, and then blow it off and oil it. I call this damp-drying it. Removing the excess moisture on the out side of the cape before oiling will help it dry more evenly later. This method is good even if you want to freeze it for later. It freezes quickly - and thaws without laying in lots of liquid.
