I'm just starting out. I've salted my whitetail cape x 3 and it is dried hard. Before I put it in the pickle, do I rehydrate? In salt water or in plain unsalted water? With or without lysol or bactericide? thanks.

I put the hide in water treated with bacteriacide without shaking the last coating of salt off, let it soften, drain, and put in the pickle, stir good so the pickle reaches all areas of the skin.
