dad makes saddles and he ordered a side and we went to cut it and it would'nt cut. Got to lookin and right in the middle of the flank area is a strip of rawhide that didnt get tanned. it is pretty thick but does this happen often

I use some repairing saddles, have not ran across that yet. I would call the dealer and tell them as the tannery should stand good for it. Not enough time in the pickle vat it sounds like.
