if i use an aut tanner do I need a tumbler to clean the capes after tanning.

Sawdust or cob grit will stop up the air manifold. Mine stopped up and required disassembly. I even once put tape over the inside hole in the drum. Duh! Was tanning some capes and could not releive the pressure. Again had to remove the air manifold.
An old clothes drier will do fine for what you need on hides.
