i have a bear that was skinned and put in a cooler with no ice, i got it and put it in the freezer nine hours later. weather was in the lower 80 that day. i now have it salted, but noticed that the hair pulls easily in a few spots. worried that it may not make it, will let it dry rock hard before pickle. any ideas , anybody had a similar situation?
thanks

Get a contract signed

it is quite possible that that bear will have hairslippage. You better get a signature from your customer on a contract that has a disclaimer about tanning on it. Talk to your customer about the situation and make him aware that the chance is pretty good for that bear to loose some hair in spots. You could get yourself in a heap of trouble if you don't get that signature and make the customer aware of what's going on. It is all about covering your own butt. I had deer come in like that. Shot in 80 degree heat and then carted around in an icechest without ice for two days to be shown off to everybody in the neighborhood. I always ask the customer how long before the animal hit the freezer and mark it on my workorder. Also mark the temperature at that time too. I then tell the customer that there is a good chance for that cape to be unusuable or at least have some hairloss. Then they sign my contract. I do mark on the work order that I talked to the customer about possible hairloss. This way they cannot come and bitch later when things go wrong.
