Working With Snake Skin

Submitted by niles clark on 09/21/2002. ( nclark5409@aol.com ) 64.12.96.198

I have cured a snake skins using a soaking solution I found on line. I now have it stretched and dried on a rack. The skin is hard and I am afraid that it will crack or break if it is bent. Is there and process I can use at this point to make it more flexible before I work with it? It is my intention to make a hat band.

If anyone has a prefered process for tanning snake skins please let me know.

I have a snake skin that is on an African drum. The drum has a crack in it under the snake skin. I am concerned about damaging the skin in the process of trying to fix the crack in the drum. If you get, or have gotten any info please let me know too.

Thanks,

Mark
