Hair slippage on ears

I have tanned four coyote hides using the EZ-100 metheod. Two out of the four had epidermis slippage on the ears. I follwed the instuctions to a "T",except that I washed the hides in true tan to clean them prior to pickling them. I pickle them in Bruce Rittle's safety acid. I noticed the problem after I neutralized the hides in baking soda. Could the problem be the True Tan I used to clean the hides.

The problem was your selection of animals to tan. Canids, especially foxes and 'yotes are notorious for the ear slippage bit. The heat from your hands in turning them often is enough to accelerate the process. You have to be quick on these guys or what you got will usually happen.
