drying salted hides

Submitted by Remus on 10/18/2002. ( )

I have some hides that i recently fleshed and salted. I plan on pickling them in Oxalyic Acid. My question is this: Is it really neccessary to dry the hides out before I pickle them. They are still freshly salted and wet. Can I just wash then and throw them in the pickle bath, or must I let them dry out. Thank you. Remus.

Dry them

I dry all my capes hard, the tanneries want them shipped dry, Bruce Rittel says to dry them hard. Theres no law saying you have to but why take the chance. Some here don't but I havent had a deer cape slip in two years.
