OK guys i have a questuion and didn't find the answer in the archives. I use EZ-100 to tan capoes and small/medium game hides. the problem i have is i seem to get too much pro-plus oil in the fur. yes i can tumble them i sawdust/corncob grit with a little mineral spirits but it doesn't seem to work like i like. then the hair side of cape either gets too dry by the time i get it mounted. yes i can be slow. lol my question is i have heard of people using a quick rinse in water with a little downy in it too rinse off hide. Does anyone use this method? if so do you dry the tanned and oiled hide out then rehydrate and rinse? or just let it sweat over night then quickly rinse before mounting? Do you have any problems with the Ph of the downy causing slippage? what about washing out the oil that has been absorbed into the cape? Any insight would be great. either post or email. thanks!

Here the method. The only time I use downey is if I'm rehydrating a tanned hide that was dried out. No need to use it after that. After I rehydrate the hide I will then sweat it out over night and then tumble it in the dryer, and then mount. PH is no problem, with no slippage. Downey is just a wetting agent that help the hide absorb water.
steve, after I oil with pro plus oil, I let sit for 4-6 ours then
give a really quick rinse in cold water. I only dip about 2 times. just enough to get excess oil off the hair. I then spin in washer
and tumble. No oil in hair.
