I'm really not sure what "stockmans salt" is - so its hard to say. However, basically when you want salt you use it based on the idea that the finer grained it is - the better it dissolves. But keep in mind that the types that include charcoal grit or are discolored usually also mean that they may be evaporated dried and could contain dormant bacteria - avoid them! Stick with the all white types - like grain mixing salt or even table salt. Stay away from the Kosher salt or Rock salt.
BRUCE....STOCKMANS SALT IS WHAT THE LOCAL AG-CENTER MIXES IN WITH LIVESTOCK FEED......OR ALL TYPES OF GRAIN FEE FOR THAT MATTER..
I get my salt from the local feed store for 2.10 a 50lb.
About $7 bucks for a 80# bag
Admittedly I know nothing of tanning etc - but I thought I have read in a few places to not use table salt as it is iodized and iodized sale should be avoided?
iodized cost more so use non iodized, cheaper.
Stockman's Salt sounds like what I always refer to as grain mixing salt. They mix it with the feed that they feed cattle. I'm pretty sure that the 2 are the same. I buy mine at our local Agway grain store in 50 lb. bags. It may say its only 99% pure and contains Yellow Prussaite of Soda but thats only to prevent it from clumping when exposed to high humidity. It still works. Also both iodized and non-iodized salt works too - like Paul mentioned, usually however, the non-iodized is cheaper - so its more preferable.
not to buy the stock salt that has minerals mixed with it, as it can mess up your tanning!
