I have had several calls from customers wanting an elk hide just tanned. I was never sure how to measure the square footage, is it just longest length X the width. Also.... what is the average sq.feet involved in an elk hide?
Another question... What do many of you charge customers for this service? I appreciate your help! Thanks in Advance!

Rocky mountain elk average 24 sq ft for 3-5 yr olds cows and bulls.
Roosevelt are about 10% larger for same age; I have seen mature bulls as high as 35 sq ft and cows at 30 sq ft!
I get a 50% deposit based on those figures and adjust the final payment when the skins come back from the tannery; they will tell you how big the skins are.
If you tan your own then measure the main body and add about 6 sq ft for the neck and legs, if present.
