I am new to this, I was wondering about pickling for liqua tan, I am using a solution of 3oz Bascal-S, 1/8oz Basacryl NB-KU, 16oz salt per gallon of water. Do I pickle for 24hrs at a PH of 1.5-2.0 and then raise the PH minutes before I am ready to tan or do I need to pickle using a hgher PH?
I salt dry to hard state, rehydrate, pickle for 24hrs, shave, pickle for 6 more hours, remove cape remove moisture and tan.
Any help here will be greatly appriciated.

You are either reading into i.e. the instruction by adding steps.
Or have not read the directions very well.
Where is the acid?
Flesh the hide from the pickle which should be less than 2.5, to keep it there add more acid.
Shave, flesh get the hide ready to mount.
Return to the pickle for 24 hours.
Now touch the flashing and shaving.
If you are happy with the condition of the hide. Mix up a ounce of Baking sode to five gallons of water, place the hide in this and agitate, wash it (NO SOAP) drip the hide dry a paper test should show no higher than a 4.0 ph.
Apply Lq and dry ovet nite.
It happens.
All right now you have applied the LQ to the hide, Hang by the nose overnite in front of a fan and a/c if its hot and humid.
Once its dry you can freeze it or rehydrate it and mount.
To rehydrate the skin, use ERA laundry soap 1/2 cup to 5 gallons and work the hide in this until soft enought to mount should take about 20 minutes, tumble dry and mount.
Do you do the paper test when its in the baking soda for the 4.0 or lower?
It's just the common recipe to neturlize capes.
PS on pickling capes, it should be no less than three days for proper pickling, some thinner hides can be done done in 24 but I rather do it properlly than take any chances. Then I shave and repickle for another 24, neturlize and tan.
I use Litmus papers in all my vats anything there could be a pH change.
