Salt Dried capes

Submitted by Ducksplus on 12/19/2002. ( ducksplus@hotmail.com ) 66.233.24.199

I rough fleshed and salted my cape its been about a week now and its still not all that hard in some places. Will sometimes a cape not get all the way hard? I got all the red meet off the cape before salting. The dried parts are white and the not so hard parts are a reddish color. Any info would be helpful. thanks

Just needs more time

Mike, Some capes take longer than others. Often I see what you describe. You can simply rub in a little more FRESH salt and remember that the dampness can be coming from the hair side. I salt in the hair on thick haired capes, especially down in the neck area of short incision pieces. Enjoy-Aaron H.

Try running a dehumidifier in the same room the cape is in,it speeds up drying time a ton.
