Midwest Tannery?

My question is this. I have a customer that has an elk hide that he wants to have made into a rug.It doesn't have the face on it just the hide. What would it cost to have a tannery do it? Is there a one you guys recommend here in the midwest? Waiting time? Or could I just do it myself and still have it pliable? I know I could tan it but breaking hides really sucks. Is there a better way to break a hide instead of the old method of pulling and working over a handle or something? I would just do it myself if there was an easier way of breaking it. If it would only cost $75 or so I'll just send it in. Sorry so long winded!
