I've got a commercially tanned (Lutan F) brown bear hide that I'm rugging for a friend. When I got it back from the tannery, I noticed it appeared to have been shaved a little too thin (they probably cut a lot of hair roots). It's a fall bear, and the roots/hair are easily visible through the flesh side. After rehydrating, I noticed that the hair is very loose and easily pulled out. I'm going to stretch it and dry it as quickly as possible with a fan in the hopes that this will "set" the hair. I'll wait until it's completely dry before grooming. Is there anything else you suggest I try in order to salvage this project? Any chemicals I should try? Spray glue on the flesh side before final rugging? Help! LW

If you are, spray the flesh side with the best 3M spray glue and affix your quilt ticking material as soon as possible. This will give some adhesion to the hair follicles and save some of it for you. Then cover with felt and stitch down.
Yes, I'm rugging myself...I'll definitely do that "spray adhesive" thing. Any other tips out there? LW
If the hair is coming thru on the head, and the neck, it probablly is a shaving problem.
