Use of Tanning Cream on Velvet?

Submitted by Aaron L. on 01/20/2003. ( aj@charter.net ) 198.140.4.205

Got my first velvet rack in today. I use Rinehart tanning cream on my hides and was curious. Could I coat the velvet with tanning cream and preserve it? It would probaby be sticky after it dried, but could probably be washed off? Any help appreciated.

I personally would not use the tanning cream, I would send it off and have the rack freeze-dried. That will preserve it and make it look natural. Noonkester Supply offers this service. Give them a call. If you didn't want to go that route, you can find the main artery in the antler an inject it. It can be a pretty complicated task sometimes. We have done both and had good results. Good luck!

you need to inject it with preserve it or formaldahide to push the blood out.Just putting something on the outside will still let it rot and slip.check the archives for more info. Lloyd
