Lather in safetee acid pickle

Submitted by Daniel on 01/30/2003. ( buckman@charter.net ) 66.190.118.114

I just salted and fleshed a grey fox and then I washed it in Dawn to get clean. I thought I had rinsed it well but when I put it in the pickle in foamed up pretty good. I have checked the ph 3 times and it is at 1.0.
Should I be concerned? Thanks

Residual!

The lather you're getting is the residual Dawn detergent that wasnt rinsed away. I have found this is true of most of the household detergents - they do not rinse away clean. As long as your PH holds below a 2.0 you should be OK - but watch it - sometimes that residual can bump it upwards.

I like to wash "after" the skin has pickled well. I usually take it out, drain it for 30 minutes, wash it, rinse, and then put it back in the pickle. Less worries that way.
