Bruce,
I placed four whitetail capes in the ez-100 after neutriling for 30 minutes, ph was 4.5 ten hours later i rechecked and ph was 3- 3.5? it should have gone up not down, i adjusted the ph back to 4.5. i hope they will still tan, any ideas on why or what i should do to save them? thanks lisa

It's very strange to see it go down like that unless it's influenced by acid. Is that a possibility? Usually as the tan is depleted by bonding itself to the skin the PH goes up slightly from the original 4.0 to perhaps 4.5 at the end.
I'm not sure I read your post right. When you mix your tanning solution it should be adjusted for a 4.0 before putting the skins in - then it's always wise to again check it an hour later and if not at a 4.0 - again readjust it. After that I normally let them tan and I always expect a PH change when they are through.
Are your skins white? Cut a sliver from the edge and look at its cross-section. If its white all the way through it - it is tanned. Otherwise - e-mail me at: Rittel@mindspring.com
