john, I have seen that you have had some doings with a product called krowtann2000. I just purchasd a qt. bottle with hopes that it will do a couple of salt dried capes for me. Here is my question. I tried to rehydrate a rock hard cape last night. I was not sure of the solution mix so I did a search but did not find that any posting said that you can rehydrate with only salt and water ,1 gal. of water to 1 pound of salt. I used 1 gal. water to 1 and a half cups of salt since I did not have a good way to measure weight. Anyway, I keep reading what posts I ran across telling me ,you need a chemical to stop bactiera growth. So since I all ready put this cape in the water and salt solution, I took it out after 3 hours as not tocause any further problems that await me. I put the cape in a trash bag and into the frig. to sweat overnight. It only softened abut 50% of what I was hoping for. then I put it into the krowtann2000. I mixed it according to the directions that came with the product, do you think it will survive? (sorry for the spelling) Thanks for any input. Bob

You willnot believe this, but I use a old washing machine

Yes, I think it will be fine.
You need to work the hide more than once per day, I think.

I have been using an old but working washing machine, so soften hides.

I woould sponge clear water on it or cover with a plain water towel for a couple more hours. It should be ok.

You may have had a bit much salt.

Rittels sell Ultra sfot, relaxer I add about 1ounce to the washer, and 2 ounces of Basacryl NB. Let the hide soak until it starts softening, then hand aggitate it. once it starts softening wash it on gentle, with an additional 1/2 Era laundry soap.

Thanks John
