Has anyone ever tried using alternative oils to soften a deer hide? I am talking about bag balm, vaseline, vegetable oils.. I bought tanning oil #1 from Knobloch's and am still waiting for it to arrive but got to thinking about other methods. Just curious.

I use vegetable oil with rubbing alcohol 50/50 mix and my deer, moose and bear hides turn out perfect, works for me anyway.
Linda oils are very different. If you bought marks #1 oil wait till it gets there. It worth the wait. There really is a big difference between oils you buy at the store and tanning oils. Don't mix them up.
