I HEARD THAT THERE WAS A TANNING PROCEDURE OUT THERE THAT DIDN'T REQUIRE SALTING. IS THIS TRUE? IF SO WHAT IS IT?

It's the AUTO-TANNER...uses the priciple of a Pressure Cooker...forcing the Pickle and Tanning solutions into the fibres of the skins, hids, capes...while tumbling them.

Cuts down time to several hours compared to several days. Check the Van Dyke catalog...ads in Breakthrough Magazine.

Pressure cooker?

The principle behind pressure cookers, if I understand the process correctly, is to increase the temperature of the water vapor thus cutting down on cooking time. You're not forcing anything into the food, but the auto tanning part sounds ok.

I'd still salt, but then again I don't have a auto tanner.

Have not used it, but states no salting required. Flesh and soak for 3 days in Krowtann and neutralize, shave and mount. A quart costs 21.50 and there number is 1 800 743 6555. Use the search on the left and look up Krowtann, you will find good things said about it, but I have never used it.
