crusty capes

Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong with Rittels EZE-100 tan? Using Saftee Acid for pickle and eze-100 tanning agent with the pro oil afterwards. while drying the cape becomes very crusty on the surface of the skin. It seems that the dryness permeates the thickness of the hide? What am I doing wrong or is this just the nature of this particular tanning process?

Not sure what's going on here for I use Bruce's stuff for most of my work. That crusty layer could be salt. The question here is the area that is crusty, is it shiny and look like some what crystals? If so that means you didn't get the salt mixed upi good or didn't rinse well.
The next thing is, it can be meat left on the the hide. If you have any left on this may also cause it to be crusty.
With out seeing this hide or knowing all the procedures it's hard to really come up with the proper answer.

Why are you drying the cape?

I never dry them after oiling, either freeze, but usually just mount them after tumbling for 5-10 min.
