Used Liqui-Tan--Hide Still Not Soft

Submitted by Linda on 03/03/2003. ( ) 152.163.189.102

I used liqui-tan on a deer hide. It is still a bit hard. What do I do next? Oil it or can I use liqui-tan as a second coat. Should I re-wet the hide first? New at this so any help is greatly appreciated.

What you can do is use some Liqua Soft or Tanning oil #1 to help soften the hide after you have Liqua Tanned it. After it has been tanned then let it sit for 12 to 18 hours then apply a thin coat of softening oil, and work the excess in later, maybe even work the hide a little over the next day or two while it dries.
If the skin is dry now then dampen the hide with just plain water, once dampened then warm the softening oil and apply a thin coat of oil. This should work just fine, if you have any questions please feel free to call at 303-666-9045 and I will be glad to help you, just ask for Mark.
