Question on breaking (I'm a rookie)

I recently tanned a coon using lutan F. I believe that I did everything correctly, pickling, degreasing, nuetralizing, etc. I have now broke the hide and have tons of like little skin piece's on the flesh side of the hide. Is this simply from the staking process and if so how do I get rid of them. Also the hide when broke took on a white color, all except, up near the neck, where it feels kind of greasy, and this spot does have an odor. Did I not de-grease well enough. Thanks for the help.

That will clean the hide up and get rid of those loose skin tissues. As far as the grease, you pegged it, not degreased properly.

Bill;
Breaking the hide is exactly what you did. Those small pieces of skin won't cause any harm, you just broke the skin fibers. It happens on all skins. It probably looks a little like suede. That going to happen. As for the neck area of your coon. I'd have to say you didn't shave it down enough to get out all the fat and gristle. Thats one area on a coon that needs special attention. I usually cut this area with a knife in small squares to help break up the fat and grisel in that area. It needs to be fleshed down a lot in that area.That the reason your getting the smell and order. I hope this helped you out.
