Degreasing beavers

Submitted by Jim on 04/09/2003. ( ) 136.141.2.76

I have 5 beavers in the pickle that will be ready to be degreased tommorow. I have Rittels Super Solvent as suggested by none other than Bruce himself. Question is how long should they stay in the degreasing solution or should I just apply it to the skin. I had directions but can't find them anywhere.

the instructions if you want to leave your address, or here is it in brief, SEVERAL methods:
1. AFter relaxing, prior to pickle, WAsh them in a super solvent bath for 30 min. rinse and pickle
2. AFter pickle, remove, drain and shave. After shaving wash in S.S. bath for 30 min. return to pickle.
3. When pickled, and ready to pull out for tanning, and S.S. directly to pickle and let soak for 30 min.

Regardless of which method you prefer, mix your bath using the following formula:

For every gallon of water or pickle solution, add 4 ounces by weight of S.S. If a scale is unavailable, measure the correct amount of S.S. using 7 level teaspoonsful=1ounce, or using a measuring cup, 2 fluid ounces=4 ounces by weight

These are instructions I have that came with Rittels Super Safety Solvent, SS618, from Van Dykes. Van Dykes Cust. Serv. no is 800 787 3355 and I'm sure you can get directions from Rittel's website at least if you E-mail him.
